I have learned through this course that I need to be diligent in selecting the material I share with my class and always checking if it is copyrighted. I do not want to instruct my students to not plagiarize and then do it myself. I also learned about some of the different ways to prevent plagiarism in my classroom. I will teach AI in my classroom, but how to use it properly and not to cheat. No technology is inherently bad, it just needs to be taught correctly. I am still nervous about avoiding copyright, but I feel like teaching them to use the Internet in a positive way would decrease cheating.
Cyberbullying is the act of bullying through the internet. It can be more harmful and more easy to catch then regular bullying because the bully can be completely anonymous. Parents and educators must teach children to act online like they do in their real lives, as it can really affect people. I also have to be proactive in teaching kids how to report cyberbullying when it happens so they can feel empowered to speak up.
I think that ChatGPT can help and also harm learning. AI can help the classroom environment by helping students find ideas for essays or projects quickly. It also can harm learning by helping them cheat on homework and assignments by finding the answers. I do think that AI has a home in the classroom and that it is better to use the positive effects than dwell on the negatives that might happen even if you discourage it.
I learned how to make a permission slip, which was the thing I was most proud of. I also made my very first column, which is a very important skill that I am glad to have learned. I think that figuring out why my computer and Word kept glitching throughout the process would make it a lot easier, as I had a lot of trouble with the logistics but the newsletter itself was pretty simple. I would love to do a monthly newsletter for my parents and students as I feel that it would bring the whole community of the classroom together and be more simple to digest information than an email.
