Blog Post #6
I have sincerely enjoyed my first experience with blogging. I used to want to try journaling when I was younger with a diary, but my hands would hurt and I would get uninspired because of that. I feel that a blog is much more approachable because you can type it so your hands are less likely to get tired. I learned that blogging is really fun, and that commenting on other people's blogs also inspires a sense of community, especially in a classroom.
I believe my favorite Web 2.0 tool used for teaching is YouTube. YouTube is so exciting as an educator because it gives a different perspective and voice to a lesson than you as an educator, so if children enjoy the YouTuber's way of educating, they can go home and watch their videos to learn more about a topic you are teaching. Additionally, you can find fun, educational songs on YouTube to help you teach for people that find learning with songs easier. YouTube also can work with fun visuals for more visual learners. There are so many different YouTube education channels, so you can pick and choose which videos fit your class the best. https://www.youtube.com/
My most recent experience with generative AI is ChatGPT. I use ChatGPT whenever I want an answer to a question, such as, "How do I tie my shoe?" condensed into a shorter answer. ChatGPT has difficulty with more deep questions because it is a robot and does not have feelings, but they can anticipate how someone might feel in a situation, even if they do not know for sure. ChatGPT is best used, however, to explain long concepts into small, bite-sized pieces in a short amount of time.
I would use generative AI to teach about how to brainstorm for ideas. It can be a major setback in an essay or project planning stage whenever you can not think of any ideas. ChatGPT can be used as a resource for coming up with the ideas, as it is an aid, but not doing the work for you. The student still will select what topic they would like to do. I will then teach not to use ChatGPT to write your essay because of the ethical concerns, just like I would teach students not to plagiarize from their sources. Generative AI is seen as taboo because teachers do not teach students how to use it constructively.
